"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease."
| 17. Do you have a list available of physicians - either MD or ND - who treat with high PH therapy and maybe other methods talked about on your website? I have an MD now as well as an ND in Arizona who are treating me for lung cancer. However, neither one is doing much and familiar enough with any of the treatments your website mentions. I have been treating myself also - using the juices and supplements and higher doses of calcium. I am holding my own but I know I need more professional guidance. If you have any names I would appreciate having them - no matter where they are - but I do live outside the Boston, MA area. The best we can suggest is that you go to our useful links page and look for the various organizations of doctors interested in alternative treatments. Many of these organizations list their members on their web site. You can then contact the doctors who serve your particular area and find out their interests. Another option is to ask your doctors to read www.alkalizeforhealth.net. However, our website is primarily for self-treatment, and there is very little that you need a doctor's help with. Our 8 step program is intended to be what YOU can do to complement whatever your doctor does. It fills in a big gap. Therefore, it is not really necessary to do anything more than just tell your doctor what you are doing (this is always a good idea). On the other hand, you want to make sure that what your doctor IS doing is complementary to your 8 step program. Some ideas for what your doctor might be doing are listed on our complementary medicine page. For lung problems we really like using 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide in a humidifier and aromatherapy with essential oils. We run the humidifier all night long. Hyperthermia, such as a sauna, readily heats up the lungs because they are directly exposed to the incoming warm air. Since you already have a naturopath, you might ask him/her about trying cesium salt. Back to List of Questions 18. Any possible connection between acidosis and A.L.S.? You ask if there is any possible connection between acidosis and ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). If you look at our saliva pH test page you will find in the left column a poll. It is a very simple poll and if you click on "current results", they seem quite convincing. Such a poll could easily be performed by any website dedicated to ALS, or by any physician. This would provide the short and simple answer to your question. Dr. Carl J. Reich tested the saliva pH of his patients, and Lou Gehrig's disease is specifically mentioned in his book as having a basis in what he called the "calcium deficiency state". (See The Calcium Factor: The Scientific Secret of Health and Youth, by Robert R. Barefoot and Carl J. Reich, M.D., 1992, page 86). The "calcium deficiency state" is equivalent to the "acidosis" you ask about. Testing and correcting this acidosis would seem a logical starting point when devising an ALS self-treatment program. However, for cancer we go beyond a simplistic "one step program" that tackles just the issue of acidosis, and propose a broader eight step program that addresses a wide variety of issues important to resolving cancer. Similarly, for ALS we would suggest that there are a variety of fronts on which the situation should be attacked simultaneously. If you look at the possible causes of ALS, you will see several of the usual suspects explored on our cancer site: free radicals, environmental toxins, trauma/stress, and infections. If you read our cancer self treatment page you will soon understand that there is a very close relationship between acidosis and free radical damage, between environmental toxins and free radical damage, between acidosis and oxygen and infections (most infections are anaerobic), between trauma/stress and proper functioning of the nervous system. To enhance the circulation of nutrients and oxygen to all the tissues, it is absolutely necessary to have clean arteries. Dr. Dean Ornish's effective 4 step program for clean arteries is low-fat vegetarian diet, exercise, non-smoking and meditation. So in a very simple way, we might derive an eight step self-treatment program to begin to address the problem of ALS: 1. More Oxygen Near the top of our meditation page there is a chart, and you will see that the incidence of diseases of the nervous system are reduced by about 87% for individuals practicing Transcendental Meditation. ALS is just one of these diseases of the nervous system that seem to be absent in the relatively stress-free nervous system produced by practice of TM. We are not suggesting that practice of TM will cure ALS, but it certainly seems to be effective in helping to prevent it. If a person already has ALS, then practice of TM may well help prevent the ALS from worsening and certainly belongs in any comprehensive program to deal with ALS. For the most part, our 8 step program for self-treatment of cancer really does not target cancer at all. Treatments specific for cancer are actually pushed to a back page of the website called complementary medicine. The real focus of our 8 step program is preventing / removing disease by creating health. The program addresses the diet and lifestyle defects that are widespread in our global society and which contribute to a wide variety of diseases that manifest according to each person's particular situation. In the absence of such a comprehensive program to create health, no medical treatment can be expected to create health. In the presence of such a program to create health, competent medical treatment will have the best chance for success. Back to List of Questions 19. My cat has cancer and the vet won't operate because the tumor is pressing into the nerve and I was wondering how you get more oxygen in a cat. Much of our 8 step program should apply to cats and other animals. You could put a little cesium carbonate or potassium chloride in the cat's drinking water. You can read about cesium carbonate here. The cesium carbonate and potassium chloride should last a very long time for a creature as small as a cat. In fact, there will probably be some left over, which you can use yourself. Cesium carbonate is particularly effective at carrying oxygen into the body, and you will probably notice heightened mental alertness when you try it. Cesium carbonate and potassium chloride are to be taken at different meals. For your cat, you might put cesium carbonate in the drinking water and when it is gone, prepare a fresh batch of drinking water with potassium chloride. Then continue alternating the two in this manner. It is necessary to take both these minerals, because cesium has a tendency to displace potassium in the body. Other things you might add to the cat's drinking water include very small quantities of hydrogen peroxide and some colloidal silver. A little cottage cheese and flax oil blended together and mixed into your cat's food each day may be helpful. You could also grind up a few apricot seeds and mix them in. Perhaps a vitamin C tablet also. There are lots of things you could mix into the cat's food. You might also investigate the various alternative treatments listed on our complementary medicine page. Beta 1,3/1,6 glucan, for example, has been used successfully on fish, animals and people for a variety of problems. The herbal remedies popularized by Harry Hoxsey originated in observations of what horses with cancer were eating in order to cure themselves. Cats enjoy the warmth of sunlight. Perhaps they would enjoy a sauna or other heat treatment as described on our hyperthermia page? A web site we like for animal cancers is http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/acancer.htm. You may find some practical advice there. Source of cesium carbonate. There are veterinarians interested in alternative medicine for animals. Here are some organizations 20. I have been diagnosed with skin lupus. If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. On each page of our web site at the bottom there is a search box. You might do a site search for "lupus" as the subject keeps coming up. Basically, lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease. We suggest you make a list of all possible causes of inflammation and deal with each one in turn. Glyconutrients are popular for autoimmune diseases. See http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/Lglyconutrients.htm For dealing with infections of various sorts (bacterial, viral, fungal) see http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/freshjuices.htm and http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/Lelectromedicine.htm A "juice fast" (consuming nothing but fresh juices) for one day each week helps to purify the body. Hyperthermia is often helpful http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/therapeuticbaths.htm Many problems have their origin in the colon. There is a diet for optimal colon health http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/salivaphtest.htm#specificcarbohydratediet Rebound exercise promotes flow of lymph http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/rebounder.htm Basically, all of our 8 step plan for cancer self-treatment applies. 21. Do you have any thoughts on Multiple Sclerosis (MS)? Each nerve in your body is covered by a "myelin" sheath, much like insulation on an electrical wire. In Multiple Sclerosis, this sheath degenerates and is replaced by scar tissue. Without the sheath, the nerve cannot function. The cause of MS is unknown. There is no cure. Drugs are available to treat the symptoms, but these drugs have side effects... If you do a search of the Alkalize For Health web site using the Google search box at the bottom of each page, you will find 28 references to Multiple Sclerosis. It just keeps popping up when we consider factors related to cancer. These include: - lack of vitamin D Factors mentioned that may help with MS include: - glyconutrients Maps of disease distribution and mortality at http://www.sunarc.org clearly show that, as a general rule, the death rates for breast, colon and ovarian cancer, as well as incidence rates for multiple sclerosis, decrease as one moves south. Dr. William B. Grant, founder of SUNARC, has published a paper in the journal Cancer, in which he argues that these differences are due to sunlight and vitamin D. The thyroid gland governs brain development including myelination. Anything that inhibits the functioning of this gland and creates hypothyroidism may contribute to demyelination. Dr. Ray Peat suggests that unsaturated fats (corn oil, safflower oil, canola oil, etc) create hypothyroidism and saturated fats such as virgin coconut oil support the thyroid and restore normal functioning. Iodine may also help. Based on the above factors:
22. This is a request for any info regarding
assistance with serious schizophrenia with the alkalize approach... I
have not been able to find much.
Dr. Carson E. Pierce wrote, "The first thought of any doctor who treats any kind of disease should be, what is the pH of this patient?" It is easy to check the saliva pH of the patient. However, if there is no "info regarding assistance with serious schizophrenia with the alkalize approach" why would one want to? The medical profession generally attempts to treat a disease without changing the diet and lifestyle of the patient. Therefore, any treatments given are specific to the disease. If there is no information in medical literature regarding the use of a treatment for a particular disease, then how can a treatment be justified? Our perspective is the complete opposite. We are dealing with disease and health from the perspective of the patient helping himself or herself, and the tools at hand are diet and lifestyle. Furthermore, our approach is not so much to treat disease as to create health. We feel that if health is created, then disease will not be found, and that it is unrealistic to expect health without having a healthy diet and lifestyle. Plus, if health is being created, then it is more likely that the treatments provided by the doctor will succeed. In this manner the two approaches should be complementary. The strength and simplicity of our approach is that if something such as alkalinity can be shown to be helpful in the cause of creating health, then we do not need to concern ourselves with the availability of literature regarding alkalinity and any particular disease (there are so many). This is why Dr. Pierce could write, "The first thought of any doctor who treats any kind of disease should be, what is the pH of this patient?" Dr. Pierce was concerning himself first with the health of the patient. On every page of our web site is the quote from Thomas Edison, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." Such is the power of our approach, that it can prevent disease and make treatments unnecessary or less necessary. We salute Dr. Pierce as being worthy of Thomas Edison's description of the "doctor of the future". In this manner we have created an 8 step program for self-treatment of cancer that is in actuality an 8 step program for creating health that can be applied with subtle modifications to the situation virtually anyone finds himself or herself in.
Here are the 8 steps:
1. More oxygen
2. More alkalinity
3. Less free radicals
4. More exercise
5. Hyperthermia
6. More enzymes
7. Nutrient dense diet
8. Transcendental Meditation
The brain requires a massive amount of oxygen to function well. Oxygen and alkalinity go together, as we explain on our website. Free radicals damage the brain, indicating the need for anti-oxidants and removal of toxic chemicals that are the source of free radical damage. Exercise is required to circulate the lymph to nourish and purify all tissues, including the brain. Hyperthermia is effective to remove toxic chemicals and heavy metals from the body. Enzymes facilitate all transformations in the body. Nutrient dense diet (including the often overlooked essential fatty acids, glyconutrients, and trace minerals) provides the basic nutritional requirements. Transcendental Meditation dissolves stress, and stress may be involved in perhaps 80% of all disease. With this as a foundational program for health, what can be added for schizophrenia? We did a search of our website using the Google search box at the bottom of each page. There are seven references to schizophrenia:
1. an allergic response to homogenized milk
2. deficiency of an essential fatty acid
called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
3. lack of vitamin D in the mother during
pregnancy
4. possible involvement of bacterial, viral or fungal
infection
5. diet, stress and maternal nutrition
6. benefit from consuming the
omega-3 and omega-6
essential fatty acids in proper balance
7. benefit from nutrition and lifestyle changes.
Point number 1 indicates the need for an elimination
diet to isolate possible allergens.
Point numbers 2 and 6 emphasize the need for
essential fatty acids in proper balance.
Point numbers 3 and 5 emphasize the importance of
maternal nutrition (neglected in our primitive society).
Point number 4 regarding possible infections is
addressed at length on several pages of our website including the
following:
Point number 5 adds the need for stress reduction
Point number 7 sums up the importance of diet and
lifestyle in dealing with schizophrenia.
You can see that our approach is one of developing a program to tackle a problem from every possible angle. Broadening our search to include other sources besides our own website, we find: 1. "In states of vitamin C deficiency, such as in the average cancer patient, no vitamin C will be detectable in the urine. In contrast, healthy individuals maintaining a reasonable dietary intake should show some measurable urinary vitamin C concentration...Chronic schizophrenics may have to ingest as much as 25 g or even 100 g in a day before an appreciable amount appears in the urine..." on page 122 of the book Cancer and Vitamin C by Drs. Ewan Cameron and Linus Pauling. This suggests that extra vitamin C may be useful. 2. The book Prescription for Nutritional Healing by James and Phyllis Balch lists the following as possible causes of schizophrenia:
- heredity Such a list provides many options to try. Indeed, the Balchs state that "treatment proceeds by trial and error, using the dominant symptoms as a guide." Our reaction to such a list is that schizophrenia is really a "catch-all" diagnosis for a wide variety of mental problems with an equally wide variety of possible causes. It is not really a disease at all. The answer to schizophrenia is a systematic program to promote health, combined where possible with addressing the various causes listed. 3. An internet search for "hoffer schizophrenia" produced several interesting results including http://www.islandnet.com/~hoffer/hofferhp.htm Dr. Hoffer's experiences applying orthomolecular therapy deserve respect. Dr. Hoffer seems to prescribe niacin/niacinamide (vitamin B3), piridoxine (vitamin B6), vitamin C, zinc gluconate or zinc citrate, plus drugs as required. So this is our long answer to your short question. We could have simply replied that like you, we have little info regarding schizophrenia and alkalinity. However, that would not have accomplished much. Hopefully, something in what we have written may be of use to you. 23. I own a fitness club. Do you have any suggestions? We would suggest that a total fitness club should broaden its perspective. Here is what we would recommend: 1. Most fitness clubs have treadmills and stationary bicycles. Why not connect them to an oxygen bar and offer EWOT (Exercise With Oxygen Therapy)? EWOT for at least 15 minutes once a month floods the body with oxygen helping to prevent disease and promote health. "Oxygenate Your Body!"
2. Many fitness clubs offer a sauna. These saunas are
generally too hot, so people either do not use them or stay in them for
a very short time. It would be good for everyone to regularly (once a
week) enjoy a
45 - 90
minute sauna at 108°F/42°C, as this is the most economical and
effective way to remove many toxic substances from the body.
"Detoxify Your Body!"
3. It would be good to offer a juice bar. In addition to fresh juices, the juice bar can offer good quality powdered green drinks for people to take home. "Alkalize Your Body!" 4. The juice bar might also offer nutritional supplements designed to clean the arteries and prevent cancer. "Nourish Your Body!"
5. Regular
exercise
promotes the flow of lymph, which is useful to help maintain the health
of the arteries. "Exercise Your Body!"
6. You might consider adding a meditation room to your club. Transcendental Meditation gives the body a level of rest averaging twice as deep as sleep. "Rest Your Body!"
This fitness program offers a wholistic approach to
total health.
24. I was diagnosed with Scleroderma about 3 years ago. I refused to go on any drugs and chose to drastically change my diet. I have done well and my doctor is impressed. However, my Reynauds disease continues to bother me. I get cold very easily. Can you suggest anything to help?
Raynaud's disease and Scleroderma go together. Many people have both. *** A genuine war on cancer will begin with a public education program letting people know what they can do to beat cancer. This web site contains the information that we would provide in such a public education program. There may be ways to improve the program and we are open to suggestions. Please send us your questions and suggestions, and if we have anything useful to say we will post your questions and the answers on this page. Our email address is alkalize@cogeco.ca.
