"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." - Thomas Edison | College of Maharishi Vedic Medicine Maharishi University of Management Fairfield, Iowa 52557 PRESS RELEASE Contact: Jim Meade (641) 472-7365, words@lisco.com
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
“Early Detection Not Enough” New Book Advocates Full-Fledged Cancer Prevention
Just released by publisher Selectbooks of New York ( www.selectbooks.com ), "The Answer to Cancer" by Hari Sharma, M.D., and Rama K. Mishra, G.A.M.S., with James G. Meade, Ph.D., takes a fresh approach to the most troubling disease of our age. "When medicine speaks of 'prevention,' it mainly is speaking of early detection, which -- if you think about it -- isn't cancer prevention at all," announces the book's opening chapter. These authors have more sweeping intentions.
The work offers a cradle-to-grave, 24-hour, easy and natural approach for averting the disease before it ever takes hold. It offers advice on diet, of course, blending modern scientific analysis ("phytochemicals", "lignans", "antioxidants") with classical Ayurvedic understanding (fruits, vegetables, herbs). (You'll find few technical Ayurvedic terms to confuse you, though.)
A brief compendium of ancient techniques in modern dress, Answer to Cancer makes an impassioned plea for, of all things, sleep. It rails against iced beverages (which it calls "the antithesis of digestion"). It teaches a basic course in Yoga while offering a few secrets for getting rid of toxins. Denouncing the microwave and the Snickers bar, it upholds the sunrise walk and periods of deep rest through Transcendental Meditation.
Hari Sharma is a pre-eminent author, scientist and researcher. His scientific studies on free radicals and food supplements are widely circulated. Author Rama K. Mishra is a traditional Ayurvedic Vaidya (physician) who has practiced in both India and America for over 30 years. Writer James Meade is a popularizer (a pioneer of the famous Dummies series and author of 25 books.)
"The public hasn't had the first clue about how to prevent cancer," attests physician Dr. Christopher S. Clark of the book. "This book provides that clue and more. This offers effective prevention if people follow the guidelines."
"It was simply time for this book," says Sharma. "We want the public to understand that you can prevent cancer, and you don't need pharmaceuticals to do it."
Looking to do for cancer what Dean Ornish books do for heart disease, The Answer to Cancer is as much an everyday guide to normal health as it is a defense against disease. The 220-page book, priced at $12.95, is available now at www.selectbooks.com, www.amazon.com, and www.bn.com (Barnes & Noble online). It will be available in bookstores starting in October.
