"It is the nutrient-per-calorie ratio of these foods that determines their food value." - Dr. Joel Fuhrman

Alkalize For Health endorses the "nutritarian" diet advocated by Dr. Joel Fuhrman 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Good nutrition will be useless if the blood is incapable of carrying the nutrients. To carry nutrients the  blood must have a high zeta potential.

"It takes five to seven times the amount of nutrients to regain one's health as it does to simply maintain it." - Dave Frahm, N.D.

Everyone probably has a genetic predisposition to one disease or another. Abuse yourself long enough and you find your predisposition.

The genetic predisposition to development of tumors will not necessarily be expressed unless conditions are favorable. The impact of genetic conditions can be modified by nutritional and other means.

"Effective with the 1976-77 school year, the sale of the following non-nutritional foods or beverages is prohibited during the school day in all public schools of the state: candy, chewing gum, soft drinks, flavored ice bars." - West Virginia Board of Education

"Pica" is the craving or eating of items that are not food. It is the result of a minerally deficient diet. Pregnant women are famous for their cravings. Animals will eat corral railings and lick paint off walls. Children will eat sand and dirt. Pica has become common around the world. The craving for "junk food" is pica.

25% of children have pica.

Two thirds of pregnant women have pica.

The craving for tobacco, alcohol, and drugs is also a form of pica - an attempt to satisfy a nagging underlying craving.

Parasites in your body can cause or aggravate pica.

Health Canada suggests that the declining nutritional content of food is merely of academic interest.

Advertising misdirects people away from minerals and toward junk food, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.

Low levels of vitamin C can lead to genetic damage in sperm. - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1991, 11003. Sperm counts are down 50%, and 85% of the remaining sperm is damaged.

A study of pregnant American women found that 78% had glaring nutritional deficiencies.

Nutritional deficiencies during pregnancy can produce changes in offspring that persist for several generations. - American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1982;35 (Suppl):579-90.

Approximately 1/2 of all pregnancies in the United States result in miscarriage or unhealthy babies. Birth defects are increasingly common.

Science Diet dog food contains 40 minerals. Human infant formulas have 12 minerals or less.

The RDA or Recommended Daily Amounts used to be called the MDA or Minimum Daily Amounts. This is much more truthful. These listed RDA amounts are still only the MINIMUM amounts required to prevent serious deficiency diseases such as scurvy, beriberi, and pellagra.

RDAs are based on "statistical averages". Individuals can vary in their requirement for particular nutrients by twenty times or more. - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1966, 55:126 and 1968, 57:1638.

Beta carotene is converted to vitamin A in your body. Taking large doses of beta carotene depletes your body of vitamin E which can increase your chances of getting cancer. Nutrients in food are balanced by other nutrients. - NEJM April 14, 1994.

Any disease that ends with "itis" involves inflammation. Examples include arthritis, bronchitis, colitis, dermatitis, etc. All of these diseases can be helped by an anti-inflammatory diet. Do an Internet search to learn more.

During a heat wave, thousands of people swooning, fainting and dying is due to salt or sodium deficiency. People on low sodium diets are most vulnerable. The best salt to eat is unrefined because it contains many trace minerals. Salt blocks for farm animals contain 15% other minerals.

Mineral-rich farm fertilizers include sea vegetation, volcanic ash and powdered rock.

Some onions are better than others. Shallots are best.

Salvestrols are chemicals produced by plants when defending themselves from attack by fungi. Salvestrols in our food are metabolized by the enzyme CYP1B1 in cancer cells, and the resulting metabolites kill the cancer cell. You can obtain salvestrols by eating organically grown red and green foods.  1, 2.

"Our immune system requires all 90 nutrients (60 minerals, 16 vitamins, 12 essential amino acids and two essential fatty acids) to maintain and repair itself in order to protect us from infectious diseases (i.e. - colds, flu, Strep-throat, "flesh-eating" Streptococcus A, Epstein-Barr virus, HIV, Candida albicans, rheumatoid arthritis, Herpes virus, Hanta virus, Cancer, Etc.)...The healthiest and longest lived cultures on the planet consistently consume high levels of 60 to 72 minerals with each meal, generation after generation - their reward is a drug free, crime free, disease free, healthful people who live long productive and joyful lives that have fulfilled their genetic potential for longevity!!!" - Dr. Joel D. Wallach pages 165 - 167. Watch Dr. Joel Wallach videos here.

For the first time in human history we have a scientific understanding of nutrients and the manufacturing capability to supply these nutrients in doses far beyond what is commonly available in food. The remarkable health benefits from consuming megadoses of key nutrients present an opportunity that everyone should take advantage of. Proper diet supplemented with megadoses of certain nutrients can bring an end to many diseases and ill health conditions.

Organized medicine and the pharmaceutical companies realize this and see the coming end to their reign of terror. They are fighting megadoses of inexpensive unpatentable nutrients with every weapon available. If they succeed, the health of humanity will suffer for many generations to come and a wonderful opportunity will have been lost.

Live 16 Times as Long!

Dr. Abram Hoffer, M.D., Ph.D. is a psychiatrist who has many cancer patients referred to him for depression and anxiety. As part of the treatment for these psychological / emotional problems he prescribes a variety of nutritional supplements. Surprisingly, the cancer patients who follow his nutritional program live 16 times longer when compared to his patients with cancer who do not follow the nutritional program!

Here is Dr. Hoffer's daily nutritional regimen for his patients:

  • 12,000 mg vitamin C
  • 800 IU vitamin E
  • 1,500 mg niacin (vitamin B3, either nicotinic acid or nicotinamide)
  • 25 to 50 times the RDA of the other B vitamins
  • 0.200 mg selenium
  • supplementary minerals such as zinc and calcium
  • general advice regarding food selection.

Dr. Hoffer's results were published in The Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine, 5(3):143-154, 1990.

"On the basis of these results and of those reported by Cameron and his collaborators we strongly recommend that patients with cancer follow the regimen described in this paper, as an adjunct to appropriate conventional therapy." - Dr. Linus Pauling and Dr. Abram Hoffer.

People understand that the body needs vitamins. However, there is much less understanding regarding the need for essential fatty acids, enzymes, minerals and glyconutrients. The cutting edge of nutrition is glyconutrients that allow the body to distinguish self from non-self, which is the foundation of the immune system. Plus, a high zeta-potential in the blood is necessary for the blood to carry nutrients. Most people are not able to gain maximum advantage from their diet due to sludged blood.

Omega 3 essential fatty acid deficiency is probably the most common dietary deficiency, resulting in widespread health degradation because essential fatty acids form part of every cell membrane in the body. Eating some flax oil daily, or keeping a small grinder filled with flax seeds on the dining room table and sprinkling some freshly ground flax onto each meal will correct this problem. We highly recommend this recipe for salad dressing: half flax oil and half olive oil, together with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, water and herbs. To understand the significance of this salad dressing, please read our page on healthy fats and oils.

Flax Seed Grinder
Economical hand grinder for flax seeds.
Electric grinders for flax seeds 1, 2.

Enzymes are probably the second most common dietary deficiency. The body requires enzymes to digest food and to facilitate EVERY metabolic activity. The amount of enzymes the body can produce internally is finite, and when they are used up you die. Eating an abundance of fresh raw foods, including lots of pineapple and papaya, plus supplementing your diet with a good quality enzyme capsule will bolster your body's enzyme supply adding years to your life and life to your years.

The Importance of Trace Minerals

Plants use trace minerals to make enzymes which are biological catalysts. Lacking these enzymes the plant will be weakened. Because the enzymes are not used by the plant in creating its physical structure, only very small quantities of the trace minerals are needed and they are used over and over again. The importance of trace minerals has long been under appreciated.

Human diets deficient in trace minerals give rise to many "hidden hungers" that  weaken the body, prevent a feeling of fullness and satisfaction, and produce cravings that empty-calorie snack foods cannot fulfill. The result is an over-fed, under nourished population whose bodies are depleted of the pancreatic enzymes that play a key role in the body's defense against cancer.

Liquid Ionic Trace Minerals from Marine Minerals

Individuals wishing to supplement their diet with trace minerals might consider drinking a small quantity of clean sea water each day. The mineral rich primordial seas still run in our veins. Concentrated sea water with the sodium removed (people tend to eat too much sodium) is recommended by some physicians. Just spray it on your food or add it to dishes & beverages during cooking and preparation. Commercial products of this nature include "Liquid Ionic Trace Minerals" available from Marine Minerals, Monroe, Utah 84754, 1-800-955-7772, www.marineminerals.com and "ConcenTrace" from Mineral Resources International (wholesale only), 1990 West 3300 South, Ogden, Utah 84401, 801-731-7040, www.traceminerals.com. The Liquid Ionic Trace Minerals and ConcenTrace are the same product sold by two different companies under different names. Long lived mountain people such as the Hunzas drink water called "glacial milk" that is filled with minerals. The Hunzas return to the soil all available organic matter, plus they use this glacial milk to water their crops.

Health writer Dr. Julian Whitaker has this to say, "I recommend that you take one to two teaspoons a day in water of ConcenTrace Trace Mineral Drops by Trace Minerals Research. The research I found indicated that colloidal minerals would not be as well absorbed as touted. ConcenTrace is purified concentrated water from the Great Salt Lake, with most of the sodium removed. It has virtually all the known trace and rare earth minerals." (Health & Healing, Vol. 6, No. 12, December 1996).

You can purchase Liquid Ionic Trace Minerals by the gallon, and then transfer it to a small spray bottle. Keep the small spray bottle on the dinner table and spray your meals with it as a salt substitute. Marine Minerals will ship this product to you anywhere in the world.

At the Earth Summit at Rio De Janeiro (June 1992), a report was released documenting the decline of nutritional minerals in farm and range soils, by continent, over the last hundred years. Here is a summary of the report:

ContinentMinerals % Depleted over 100 Years
North America85%
South America76%
Asia76%
Africa74%
Europe72%
Australia55%

"Nations endure only as long as their topsoil." - Henry Cantwell Wallace

Water soluble minerals are constantly being washed out of the soil and into the ocean. Until these minerals are regularly replaced in farm soils through the widespread use of seaweed, volcanic ash, and rock powders as fertilizers, you must find another way to get these minerals in your diet. We recommend Liquid Ionic Trace Minerals with every meal for everyone.

Minerals and Mineral Antagonists

When your body is deficient in a mineral it requires, it will search for an alternate. For example, the cells in your arteries require zinc. If zinc is not available, the body will substitute the toxic metal cadmium. The result is arteries that are less flexible, leading to high blood pressure and damaged or cracked arterial walls. The body then attempts to repair the damaged arteries by patching the cracks with plaque.

Cadmium is a known carcinogen and is found in cigarette smoke. In addition to the arteries, cadmium will concentrate in the prostate gland of men, the breast and womb of women, and the kidneys.

ZincCadmium
Sulphur/MolybdenumCopper

Dietary sources of zinc include whole grains, legumes (beans, lentils, peas), nuts, seafood (oysters), "fortified" foods.

Dietary sources of sulphur include cruciferous vegetables, allium vegetables, wheat germ, nuts, eggs, seafood (clams).

Dietary sources of molybdenum include whole grains, legumes (beans, lentils, peas), nuts. Deficiencies in this mineral are seldom seen.

Dietary sources of selenium include whole grains, seafood, brazil nuts.

By ensuring the body has a constant supply of necessary nutrients, mineral antagonists already incorporated into the structure of the body will be released in time as the tissues are rebuilt. Mercury, lead and cadmium are removed from the body by glutathione, and also by eating one tablespoon daily of chopped cilantro.

Maharishi Amrit Kalash (MAK) from Maharishi Ayurveda Products International (MAPI)

An excellent nutritional supplement is Maharishi Amrit Kalash (MAK). Maharishi Amrit Kalash is prepared according to an age-old formula passed down by generations of Ayurvedic physicians. Forty-four rare, whole herbs and fruits are combined through a meticulous 250 step preparation. Ancient Ayurvedic physicians designed MAK to bestow immortality.

Modern research on MAK has been extensive with many published research studies. Here are some references. Maharishi Amrit Kalash is such a comprehensive formulation that one researcher commented no matter what they are researching they find it in MAK. MAK contains all the vitamins and other nutritional elements known to be required by the body. MAK is a powerful antioxidant, 1,000 times more potent that vitamin C or E. It destroys all types of free radicals, which are related to 80 percent of diseases and premature aging. MAK helps keep arteries clean, strengthens the immune system, and is found to be powerful food for the brain. MAK helps protect the body from toxic chemicals, thereby reducing the side effects from chemotherapy.

MAPI will ship Maharishi Amrit Kalash to you anywhere in the world.

Glyconutrients

Glyconutrients are at the forefront of nutritional science. There are eight simple sugars (monosaccharides) that combine with proteins and fats to form a code that allows each cell to communicate with others. These special molecules are found on the surface of every cell and allow the immune system to distinguish between self and non-self. This code is the basis for blood types, the functioning of the immune system, the body's ability to heal itself, and much more.

A healthy body receiving excellent nutrition may have an abundance of these glyconutrients, but it is a sure bet that an unhealthy body is deficient. This causes a breakdown in the internal communication system that harmonizes trillions of cellular functions every second.

Deficiencies of glyconutrients contribute to dozens of autoimmune diseases including AIDS, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, inflammation, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. (Do an internet search for "autoimmune diseases".) Increasing the level of glyconutrients in the body strengthens the immune system and creates increased resistance to bacterial and viral infections. The ability to distinguish self from non-self is the basis of the body's ability to fight cancer and maintain good health.

This information about glyconutrients is not intended to promote the products of any particular company. Do a search of the Internet to find a source of glyconutrients that appeals to you. Or start a garden and let your foods ripen naturally. Glyconutrients are found in foods that are fully and naturally ripened on the tree or vine, etc.

The eight essential sugars are: glucose, galactose, mannose, fucose, xylose, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylgalactosamine, and N-acetylneuraminic acid. Mannose and fucose are particularly important in the fight against cancer. Glucose and galactose are commonly available in the modern diet, and the other six sugars are generally deficient. Here is where these 8 simple sugars can be obtained:

8 Essential Sugars

Homemade Glyconutrient Powder

A popular multi-level marketing company sells glyconutrient powder for about $1 per gram. There are 454 grams in a pound, so that is $454 per pound. Their product is probably superior to our homemade glyconutrient powder, but ours is more affordable. Where you might consume 1/4 teaspoon of their powder, you can consume ours by the heaping teaspoon. Being unrefined, our ingredients contain other nutrients as well.

Here are the powders, prices, and the glyconutrients they contain. We use equal amounts of each powder, measuring by volume. There are other sources of powders and recipes on the Internet.

Ingredient Cost (May 2014) Glyconutrients
Frontier Organic Fenugreek Seed Powder$13.87 per pound (454 grams)mannose, galactose
Starwest Organic Kelp Powder$8.00 per pound (454 grams)fucose, xylose, mannose, galactose, glucose
Raw Organic Whey Protein Powder$34.10 per pound (454 grams)N-acetylneuraminic acid
Chicken Cartilage Powder$74.95 + $5.49 s/h per pound (454 grams)N-acetylglucosamine,
N-acetylgalactosamine
Psyllium Powder (seed or husk)$12.99 per pound (454 grams)xylose
Frontier Nutritional Yeast$15.66 per pound (454 grams)fucose
Swanson Sunflower Lecithin$22.95 per pound (454 grams)improves absorption

Cost of glyconutrient powder$188.01Weight in grams is 3,178 grams. Cost per gram is a little less than 6 cents.

You may want to amend the recipe according to what is available or what you prefer to eat. For example, some people include shiitake mushroom powder, cayenne pepper, or substitute between bovine, chicken or shark cartilage. Whey protein with added enzymes is easier to digest. Organic cold-processed whey powder has additional health benefits. Quantities in the recipe may also vary.

Eat one heaping teaspoon twice a day. If you do not like the taste, start with less. Mix your glyconutrient powder into juice, yoghurt or a smoothie. Or put your homemade glyconutrient powder into capsules so you can swallow without tasting. You can purchase gelatin capsules or veggie capsules on the Internet. We use 00 size capsules that cost about 1 cent each.

Economical capsule filling devices for home use:
The Capsule Machine

Cap-M-Quik® Size 00 All-In-One Kit

The size 000 capsule is larger, but may be more difficult to swallow.

We use The Capsule Machine because it puts the tops on the capsules for you. With Cap-M-Quik you need to put the top on each capsule by hand.

You might want to read on the Internet about each of the above ingredients. Do a search for "fenugreek healing", "kelp healing", "whey protein healing", "chicken/bovine/shark cartilage healing", "psyllium seed healing", "brewers yeast healing", and "lecithin healing". Many of these have healing powers that have been recognized since ancient times and there has been much modern research.

We generally use equal quantities of each ingredient when mixing the powder for insertion into the capsules. Then we consume four capsules daily. There is nothing scientific about this. It is just what we do and it works for us. Until more research comes along, you need to experiment and find what works for you.

A nice thing about obtaining glyconutrients from economical food sources is that you can eat as much as you want without spending too much money.

Homemade Antioxidant Powder

A multi-level marketing company sells antioxidant tablets for about $1 per gram. There are 454 grams in a pound, so that is $454 per pound. Their product is probably superior to our homemade antioxidant powder, but ours is more affordable.

The five ingredients of the commercial product are not a secret. They are turmeric extract, green tea extract, milk thistle seed extract, ashwagandha root, and bacopa extract. We make our own using the whole ingredients rather than the extracts, and just eat more. We take 2 capsules daily, compared to the one tablet daily of the product made from extracts. The following ingredients are what we put in our capsules.

Ingredient Weight Price (2014) Price per Gram
Starwest Organic Milk Thistle Seed Powder 454 grams (1 pound) $17.08 $0.04
Banyan Organic Bacopa Powder 454 grams (1 pound) $21.95 + $5.95 s/h $0.06
Elixir of Life Organic Ashwagandha Root Powder 454 grams (1 pound) $19.99 + $4.49 s/h $0.05
Starwest Organic Turmeric Powder 454 grams (1 pound) $13.26 $0.03
Matcha Organic Green Tea Powder 293 grams (10 ounces) $24.32 $0.08

      Average $0.05

Homemade Healthy Heart and Circulation Powder

Dr. Linus Pauling and others have recommended vitamin C, plus the amino acids lysine and proline to clean and rebuild healthy arteries and veins. Dr. Rath added green tea extract to the formula and found that it prevented the spread of cancer. Green tea is in our antioxidant formula above, but you can also add it to the Healthy Heart formula if you wish.

Here is our homemade "Healthy Heart and Circulation" supplement:

Ingredient Weight Price (2014) Price per Gram
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 2270 grams (5 pounds) $32.50 + $7.50 s/h $0.01
Lysine Powder 1000 grams (2.2 pounds) $22.95 + $5.99 s/h $0.03
Proline Powder 500 grams (1.1 pound) $28.50 + $5.99 s/h $0.07

      Average $0.04

Based on other formulas sold on the Internet (for much more money), we use equal quantities of ascorbic acid and lysine, and half as much proline. Place the ingredients in a large bowl and run through a sifter several times to make sure it is well mixed. You can put this mixture into capsules or add a spoonful to juices and smoothies.

Alternatively, add the protein powders to your smoothies and take supplemental vitamin C separately. Organic cold-processed whey powder is a good source of both lysine and proline.

Homemade Anti-Aging Powder

You can read about the combination of  L-carnosine, DMAE and Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) on the page The Nature of Aging, where it is suggested this formula will help slow the aging process and extend longevity. The Life Extension Foundation (LEF) discusses a similar formula consisting of Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Carnosine here. We have combined the ingredients of both.

Ingredient Weight Price (2014) Price per Gram
L-Carnosine Powder 500 grams (1.1 pound) $188.96 $0.38
DMAE Powder 500 grams (1.1 pound) $28.96 $0.06
Acetyl-L-Carnitine Powder 500 grams (1.1 pound) $28.96 $0.06
Alpha Lipoic Acid Powder 250 grams (1/2 pound) $37.55 + $4.99 s/h $0.17

    $289.42 Average $0.17

There are two versions of ALA: R-ALA and S-ALA. They are mirror images of each other. Only R-ALA occurs naturally in food and is used by the body. According to the Linus Pauling Institute, "virtually all of the published studies of LA supplementation in humans have used racemic LA." Racemic LA is the cheapest kind, containing equal quantities of R-ALA and S-ALA. Since R-ALA can get terribly expensive, we have chosen to use the inexpensive racemic powder in our formula.

Now that you have your Capsule Machine you can put other nutrients into capsules. For example, you might put potassium bicarbonate into capsules to easily increase your alkalinity. You can purchase bulk ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and put it in capsules. Some people need supplemental niacin. The body makes niacin and serotonin from tryptophan. Tryptophan and lysine are the two essential amino acids that are destroyed by the heat of cooking, which is why most people are deficient.

Five 00 capsules contain about one teaspoon, which is about 5 grams (approximately one gram per capsule).

Superfoods

In addition to flax oil (or freshly ground flax seeds), enzymes, trace minerals, Maharishi Amrit Kalash and glyconutrients, you would be well advised to include some superfoods in your daily diet. Superfoods include:

Seaweed - everyone should eat a little regularly.

Chia seeds contain all the essential amino acids, omega 3 oil, and 30 nutrients. Find ways to mix the seeds into every meal. Search the Internet for recipes.

Sprouts - contain far more nutrition than mature vegetation. The amino acid lysine is important to prevent cancer metastases yet it is "denatured" by heat. Eating raw bean sprouts provides lysine and many other nutrients.

Juices - concentrated nutrition.

Sunlight - the best source of vitamin D.

Avocado - Full of nutrients and helps the body absorb nutrients from other foods.

Medicinal mushrooms - Grow your own or buy them at your local grocery store or Chinese market. Look for Shiitake mushrooms, Maitake mushrooms, Reishi mushrooms, and Oyster mushrooms.

Lemon wedge - squeezed and then placed in your beverage so that the lemon oil mixes with your drink.

Edible tobacco - perhaps the best plant source of B vitamins. Add to salads, soups and stews. Keeps well in your freezer. Grow it in your garden.

Apricot kernels - Like in Hunza, every garden should have some apricot trees. When you eat an apricot, crack open the seed and eat the kernel.

Flax oil (omega-3) and extra virgin olive oil (omega-6) in equal quantities to maintain a good balance of the essential fatty acids. Or keep a small coffee grinder on your dining room table and sprinkle tablespoons of freshly ground flax seeds on your meals each day.

Cod liver oil - an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D and vitamin A. North American consumption of cod liver oil has fallen dramatically in recent decades. This is unfortunate. Everyone young and old would benefit from eating one tablespoon of cod liver oil daily. If mothers consumed this from the initial conception of the fetus, it would make a big difference to the future dental health of their child.

Turmeric - an ingredient in curry powder.

Fenugreek - an ingredient in curry powder.

Virgin coconut oil and palm kernel oil have many health benefits you can read about on the Internet. Eat some yourself and feed a small amount to your pets each day. Rub it on your skin for fungal infections.

Green drinks such as Green Magma, Barley Green, Greens+, wheat grass juice. Look for powdered juices of greens rather than powdered greens. The powdered juices contain more concentrated nutrition. Leafy greens should be a staple food in your diet.

Fresh pineapple and papaya for their enzymes.

Natto

Cilantro is a kind of parsley that many supermarkets sell. It helps remove mercury and other harmful metals from the body. Eat some cilantro every day.

Green tea contains a powerful antioxidant called EGCG that works synergistically with lysine, proline and vitamin C to stop the spread of cancer according to Dr. Rath.

Nutritional yeast (brewer's yeast) grown in a "super-dense nutrient broth", such as EpiCor from Embria Health Sciences. First developed as an animal feed, this product improves digestion and muscle weight gain, and produces a remarkable strengthening of the immune system.

Oatmeal - contains the most soluble fiber of any food. Stimulates the white blood cells known as macrophages and neutrophils that recognize and destroy cancer cells, viruses, etc.

Wheat germ

Spirulina, chlorella, marine phytoplankton

Allium vegetables - red onions, scallions, garlic, chives, leeks.

Flower pollen

Royal Jelly and propolis

Grapes - grapes are notorious for containing pesticides. Grow your own or buy organic grapes. The skins of red and green grapes are your best source of resveratrol.

Lecithin granules - lecithin is composed of choline and inositol that largely make up the sheath around each nerve. Lecithin helps clean cholesterol out of your arteries. Cholesterol becomes soluble in the presence of lecithin. Lecithin may also help prevent gallstones. Inositol is a treatment for depression. The best lecithin is probably organic sunflower lecithin.

Lugol's iodine 2 drops daily. Or potassium iodide. Or tincture of iodine - rub a little on your skin each day and your body will absorb what it needs. Iodoral is Lugol's iodine in tablet form.

Miso - source of vitamin b12 that nourishes the sheath that covers each nerve.

Cold-processed organic whey protein - good source of the amino acids lysine and proline that (together with vitamin C) are needed to keep your arteries from clogging. For easier digestion, some whey protein powders contain enzymes. If the whey protein is not "cold-processed" some of the proteins may be "de-natured" and are not effective. Lysine, which is needed to prevent cancer and heart disease, is deficient in most of the population due to the dependence on heated protein foods. Sprouts are another good source of unheated proteins. For problems with non-organic whey protein see "Say No Way! To Whey!". Other good protein supplements include chia seeds and protein from hemp.

Yoghurt and other sources of friendly intestinal bacteria such as kefir, fermented pickles and sauerkraut. Buy the pickles and sauerkraut in the refrigerated section of your supermarket, and keep them in your fridge. A product of fermentation is butyric acid (butyrate), a short chain fatty acid that stimulates beneficial bacterial growth, improves absorption of minerals and digestion of fats, and helps prevent inflammation. Butyric acid useful for Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). A good source of butyric acid is Kombucha tea.

Brazil nuts - a good source of selenium. Eating one or two brazil nuts each day should be enough. Keep a basket containing a variety of nuts in the shell sitting in the dining room. Each day for a snack eat one or two of each kind of nut. Buy the nuts in season and store them in a cool place.

Sardines - If you want to eat fish, sardines contain an abundance of healthy oils and other nutrients, and few of the contaminants found in larger and longer lived species. In our experience, sardines from Portugal taste and smell much nicer.

Vitamin C foods - Many people have sub-clinical scurvy due to inadequate vitamin C intake. Foods high in vitamin C include red bell peppers, parsley, broccoli, cauliflower, fresh strawberries, citrus fruit (oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit), romaine lettuce, mustard greens, Brussels sprouts, papaya, kale, kiwifruit, cantaloupe, tomato, and cabbage. Nearly all fresh fruits and vegetables contain a little vitamin C.

The goal is to attain and maintain a state of nutrition saturation, in which your body has everything it needs and is no longer starving for some of its requirements. The most important nutrient is the one that is deficient in you.

Preventing angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) by means of drugs and/or diet is a way to help prevent and treat cancer. It is interesting that a diet of antiangiogenic foods is also found to reverse obesity in experimental animals.

Antioxidant Foods

Antioxidant foods are essential for cancer prevention. The Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) of foods as determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture suggests that the following foods have high antioxidant value:

Note: The numbers represent ORAC units per 100 grams (about 3 1/2 ounces).

Fruits:Vegetables:
prunes - 5,570spinach - 1,260
raisins - 2,830 kale - 1,170
blueberries - 2,400brussels sprouts - 980
blackberries - 2,036alfalfa sprouts - 930
strawberries - 1,540broccoli florets - 890
raspberries - 1,220beets - 840
plums - 949red bell pepper - 710
oranges - 750onion - 450
red grapes - 739corn - 400

Every week seems to bring a new claim about the superior nutritional power of an exotic fruit or some other novel antioxidant source, which is often sold at a breathtaking price. But if your diet includes a colorful array of fresh fruits and vegetables, you should be getting plenty of antioxidants without having to spend more on the exotic, and often unjustifiably expensive "antioxidant of the month."

Here are my top choices with proven health benefits: green vegetables such as spinach, collards, kale and broccoli contain lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoid antioxidants that can protect aging eyes from developing cataracts and macular degeneration. Cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale and turnips contain antioxidants and other phytonutrients that reduce cancer risk. Sweet potatoes, carrots, mangoes, apricots and other yellow or orange fruits and vegetables are rich in beta carotene, an antioxidant that boosts the immune system. Tomatoes, watermelon, papaya, and pink grapefruit are among the red pigmented fruits and vegetables that contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant helps fight heart disease and some types of cancer, particularly prostate cancer. The blue color in blueberries, purple grapes, red cabbage, beets, and plums comes from anthocyanins, phytochemicals that protect against carcinogens and may help prevent heart disease.

And don't forget about green and white tea, dark chocolate and red wine, all very high in antioxidant activity.

It is good to eat the above foods as part of a healthy diet. However, in our opinion, the antioxidant that has demonstrated the most significant value in a living human body is Earthing. Earthing traces its roots back to the Vedic tradition of India. Here are scientific references regarding its effectiveness. Here is a demonstration in plants.

Maharishi Amrit Kalash (MAK) mentioned above is more than an antioxidant. MAK actually induces the body to produce more of its own antioxidants.  MAK is an ancient Ayurvedic formula designed to promote longevity, which means that it benefits all aspects of the physiology. As the years go by, it will be interesting to watch as the scientific research on Maharishi Amrit Kalash continues to unfold. Highly recommended.

"It is the nutrient-per-calorie ratio of these foods that determines their food value."

The concept of nutrient density that Dr. Fuhrman mentions is key to truly making sense of dietary issues. The USDA maintains a National Nutritional Database. Go to the database and start searching on your favorite foods. If you know how to read it ("energy" equates to calories) and compare sirloin steak to romaine lettuce, for example, you will be greatly surprised. You will find that romaine lettuce not only has far more nutrients than sirloin (probably not a surprise), but it also contains over twice the protein per calorie as sirloin. Now that probably will come as a surprise to most people. As a side note, on a per calorie basis, romaine lettuce contains 100 times the calcium, over 20 times the magnesium, and infinitely more antioxidants, phytochemicals, and fiber than sirloin. Which food do you think is more beneficial to your body?

And it's not just leafy greens that are nutrient dense. Fruits of all kinds are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytochemicals, and fiber.

And even whole grains have more nutrient density than meat and dairy.

Editor's note: To access the incredible nutritional content of fruits and vegetables, we highly recommend including some freshly made juices and smoothies in your daily diet.

One of the purposes of eating is to obtain energy for activity. From this point of view, the most important meal will be near the beginning of the day's activity and the least important meal will be near the end of the day's activity. Eating just before going to bed will be counter productive, because the activity of digestion will prevent deep rest during sleep, and all the energy from the food will be converted to fat.

A good breakfast highly recommended by Ayurvedic physicians is stewed apples. Here is our recipe. For each person, cut up one apple. Eat the seeds and put the chopped apple in a pot. Add one half cup water, one half teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon cloves, and sweeten it with some organic raisins. Cover and cook on low heat while you meditate.

According to Ayurveda, your digestive power is maximum at noon, so this is when the main meal of the day should be eaten. To get maximum value out of your food, it is good to eat when your digestion is strong.

The Importance of Whole Food, All Natural Nutritional Supplements

Each of these dietary supplements and superfoods is from all natural sources, and their contents are not limited to the "known" and "officially sanctioned" nutrient requirements of the body. Every year the importance of more and more nutrients is recognized by science. In these supplements you are getting all the nutrients we know about plus you are probably getting all the nutrients we do not yet know about as well.

These nutritional supplements are not "cures for cancer". Rather, in a time when the food available in grocery stores is demonstrably deficient in nutritional value, these supplements are needed by everyone whether sick or healthy in order to provide the nutritional basis for good health.

"When rats are feeding from organically grown soil, they have perfectly healthy organs through many generations. Other groups of rats, living on ordinary food in the United States and Britain developed, within one generation, all the degenerative diseases and pathology known in human beings." - Gerson, page 146

A good book on the relationship between farming and disease that you can read for free on the Internet is Farming and Gardening for Health or Disease by Sir Albert Howard. Highly recommended! Or have a look at the Better Farms section of our web site. Once you understand this relationship, you will know what needs to be done to create a healthy society.

Many of the popular vitamin tablets are not well absorbed by the body. The people who wash out port-a-potties report finding many vitamin tablets. Nurses in hospitals call undissolved vitamins "bedpan bullets." Besides being poorly absorbed, another problem with common supplements is that many of the nutrients are artificially made. A complex biological molecule can be assembled in at least two ways, each being the mirror image of the other. Most natural vitamin molecular structures rotate in a dextro-rotary motion, which means that they turn polarized light in a right-handed direction. All amino acids except glycine have a laevo-rotary action inside the molecule, which means that they turn polarized light in a left-handed direction. Laetrile is laevo-rotary. Artificial vitamins are generally half one way and half the other, meaning that they are half nutrient and half toxic waste. It is better to eat all natural foods and food supplements.

We hope this brief discussion of dextro-rotary and laevo-rotary gives you a glimpse into the beautiful, precise and complex world of nutrition. There is so much that industry does not want you to know. The asbestos disaster is nothing compared to the coming disaster created by genetically altering our food crops. So called "genetic engineers" use a kind of "gun" to blast foreign DNA into a cell. The obvious imprecision shows that this is not "engineering" at all. Rather, it is a foolhardy destruction of the few food crops on which we all depend. Unfortunately, these disastrous mutant strains cross pollinate with non-genetically modified crops and the result is a genetic pollution that will self-perpetuate forever. This is nothing less than a massive crime against all future generations of humanity. Please see the article on gene pollution in our Library.

Each of our recommended nutritional supplements and superfoods contains a wide variety of easily absorbed nutrients in their natural form. Hopefully, this will significantly reduce the number of pills and potions you need to take each day. Also, getting your nutrition from food sources may soon be your only option, because due to the influence of pharmaceutical companies effective supplements may become illegal.

How food is grown dramatically influences its nutritional value. Maximum nutritional value is essential if you want to regain and maintain good health. This is why we have an entire section on this web site regarding growing high quality food.

In our next section we review some of the many ways the world has changed since 1904 and their significance for cancer.

Summing Up - How The World Has Changed Since 1904

Constipation Has Really Met It's Match With Oxy-Powder!

In 1904 there was very little cancer. Now there is an abundance of cancer. What has changed? Can this be reversed? If you have cancer or do not want to get cancer the information you and your family need is on this web site.
